Kilwa, Tanzania
Kilwa's story does not begin until the 10th century. It may have been the daughter of Pharaoh who married Solomon began. Wife of Solomon I wanted ivory, monkeys, peacocks, and all the luxuries of the East which has long been known to Egypt. Solomon needed gold and silver to the treasury of the LORD, for construction Temple, for its palace and garrison. Kilwa's wealth during the period of their ascendancy depended in part on trade in ivory, but mainly in its monopoly gold trade of Sofala. A well taken centuries old road leading from Lake Nyasa to Kilwa and is one of the few major routes of the slave caravans. The coins were struck in created a wedge in there. This mint is the only set so far in Black Africa, except the mints after Mogadishu and Zanzibar. Kilwa Kisiwani was once the most famous shopping place in East Africa. From the 11th century and early-Hasan bin Ali Al 15th managed to create a powerful city (Kilwa Kisiwani) and as a major trading center along East African coast. He built a great mosque, established close trading links to the interior of southern Africa as Nyasaland and Zimbabwe.
In this sense, Kilwa Kisiwani became the first commercial port in the Indian Ocean. His wealth came from the exchange of gold and iron from Great Zimbabwe and elsewhere South Africa, ivory and slaves from mainland Tanzania to textiles, jewelry, porcelain and spices from Asia.
In the 13th century Kilwa had become in the most powerful city in the East African coast, in pursuit of political domination and the extent of trade on the island of Pemba in the north and Sofara (modern Beira in Mozambique) in the south. It is the place at sea and tidal currents that isolate the island from the mainland is protected from attacks by landslides.
The outside world became known through an Kilwa
Morocco intellectual journey (Abu Abdullah Ibn Battuta) who had visited Kilwa in 1331, and Portuguese sailors who visited place some 170 years after Batuta, these travelers are credited with much of the written history of Kilwa – on life, wealth and control of trade powerful in the east coast of Africa. Abdullah Ibn Batuta, arrived at Kilwa, was amazed by its beauty.
